Nepal's Labour Act, 2074 (2017) sets the minimum leave employers must give. Your company can give more, never less.
The main leave types
| Leave | Entitlement |
|---|---|
| Home leave | 1 day for every 20 days worked (about 18 days a year) |
| Sick leave | 12 days a year |
| Maternity leave | 98 days, part of it paid |
| Paternity leave | 15 days |
| Mourning leave | 13 days |
| Public holidays | As set by the government each year |
Carrying leave over
Unused home leave and sick leave can build up to a limit, and unused leave may be paid out when someone leaves. Check the current rules for the limits and how payouts are worked out.
Write it in your policy
Put your leave rules in a written policy, including who approves leave and how far in advance staff should ask. Have every employee read and sign it.
How WorkforceOS helps
When you sign up, WorkforceOS adds these leave types with the days above as a starting point. You can change the days, add your own types and set approval rules. See leave management.
This is general information to help you plan, not legal or tax advice. Rules change with each budget; check the current rules with the SSF office, the Inland Revenue Department or your accountant.
